About Carl Friedrich "Charles" Goetsch

OBIT- 24 October 1926 WATERTOWN DAILY TIMES, Watertown, Jefferson Co, Wisconsin
Charles Goetsch, 410 7th Street, passed away at his home Sunday evening at 8:10 o'clock of heart disease. He was taken seriously ill suddenly on Monday evening after spending the day at his farm in the town of Emmet. Pneumonia developed later and resulted in his death.

Mr Goetsch was a pioneer resident of this city, coming here many years ago. He was a native of Lebanon, Dodge Co, where he was born on 26 September 1844. He lived on the home farm until he was 18 years of age when he worked on a farm for 2 years. The next 2 years were adventurous years for him, first as a fisherman on Lake Michigan. His run was out of St Joseph and after a year of that life he spent another year in the "pinery" in Michigan before returning to Wisconsin. He then purchased a farm in the town of Emmet.
Mr Goetsch was married to Miss Emilge Krueger on 10 January 1868. She was the daughter of a town of Emmet neighbor and the couple continued to live in that township until 1873 when they came to Watertown. The same year he entered the employ of Racek & Jones, then the largest merchants in this city. He worked for the firm continuously for 32 years, retiring in 1906. Mr and Mrs Goetsch observed their golden wedding on 10 January 1918.

Surviving Mr Goetsch are his wife and 2 daughters, Miss Sarah and Miss Ida Goetsch, both of this city. One sister, Mrs Alvin Brey of Fond du Lac, and 2 brothers Emil Goetsch of the Town of Ixonia, and Henry Goetsch of Houston, Texas also survive.

The passing of Mr Goetsch removes an active and substantial citizen. Mr Goetsch enjoyed life in a sane way. He was regular in all of his habits and was always a jolly man, finding the pleasure instead of the sorrow in living and making his society worth seeking. His countless friends throughout this city and the surrounding communities, especially in the town of Emmet, attest to his popularity and the high esteem in which he was held. As word went around today that "Charley" Goetsch had passed away there were many sad hearts and friends recalled his friendship and his kindliness.

The decedent attended the Advent church, 8th Street The funeral will be held Thursday with the services at the family home at 1:30 followed by services at the church at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
