About Caroline Stevens
Caroline Philipps, senior, a daughter of Charles Joseph Philipps and Maria Anna White, was bp., on April 2nd., 1835, in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Hope, Buleshawar, Bombay, India, aged 15 days, her god-parents being Dominic Francis Gonsalves and Anna Isabel Philipes, both of this cathedral. The cathedral register, in Portuguese, spelled the surname Philipe and Philipes.
About 1855, Caroline married Henry Stevens, a covenanted employee in the Admin. Division of the G. I. P. Railway. They lived in the parish of Rosary Church, Masagaon, Bombay. Caroline died about 1857 and Henry, aged 32 years, on February 13th., 1868; they were both buried in Rosary Church, Masagaon, near the sanctuary; the floor of that church has since been re-tiled and there is no sign of these graves. They had one child, Rose Mary Stevens.
