About Caroline Wright
Caroline was born Karen Marie Olsen in Hasseris, Buldolfi, Aalborg, Denmark. She joined the LDS church in Denmark as a youth with her parents and siblings. She pushed a handcart across the plains with her 2 sisters, Mette Kirstine and Nicoline to reunite with her parents in Salt Lake. She had a bad leg and had to ride some of the way in the cart. Two days after arrival she was married (in her early 20's) to Jonathan Calkins Wright (in his 40's) in Brigham Young's office, as Jonathan's seventh and last wife on November 5, 1857. She said he was a kind man and she grew to love him. They were the parents of 8 or 9 children, 2 died in infancy.
Though Caroline could only speak the Danish language when she came to America, she learned to read and write English very well. She was her husband's secretary when he was acting judge and while holding other civic as well as ecclesiastical offices. Often she held her baby in her arms while she recorded the proceedings of the court or the minutes of an important meeting. Brigham City was her home during her married life and until her death. Her first home was a one-room log house. In later years, two adobe rooms were added.
