Carolyn Rachel (Hiller) Alverson, 86, died on November 14, 2000 at the Frontier Personal Care Center in Livingston. She was born on April 22, 1914 in Reed Point, Montana, the daughter of Scandinavian immigrants, Tom and Jorena (Lende) Hiller. She moved with her mother and brother at an early age to Wilsall in Park County and spent her younger years with her mother, brother and stepfather, Ole Braa, on the family ranch east of Wilsall on Daisy Dean Creek at the foot of the Crazy Mountains.

She received her education in Park County rural schools and graduated from Wilsall High School in 1932. She earned a teaching diploma from Western Montana College and also attended Colorado State College in Greeley, Colorado. Her first teaching position was at the Green School, northeast of Wilsall. This was a rural, one-room school house, where she had 45 students in eight grades. She rode horseback three miles each way to reach the school. She also taught in the elementary grades at Wilsall and at the Lincoln School in Livingston. She loved and was loved by her students.

She was married to Kazan Elbert Alverson on February 8, 1942 in Livingston. They lived in Anaconda, where her husband was employed by the Anaconda Company, and then moved to Livingston in 1945, where she made her home. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway.

She is survived by two sons; one daughter; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Hiller and Jorena (Lende) Braa; stepfather, Ole Braa; her beloved husband Kazan Elbert Alverson; and her much loved brother, Harold Hiller.

A celebration of her live will be held on Monday, November 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Livingston.
