notes

From Short Histories of 7 Henry Boxes Thu, 27 Dec 2012

Henry Box, born about 1765, was the son of Henry Box, born about 1738, of Washington Co. NC. This Henry was known as Henry Box, Sr. who settled in St. Clair Co. AL about 1818 and is said to have had three sons, James F. Box, born about 1787 in SC, Allen(Pinson) Box, born about 1794 in SC and Henry Box, Jr., born in 1796 in SC, and one daughter, Levina Box, born about 1791.

His illegitimate son, James, was evidently half Cherokee and was given status as a legitimate son by the Alabama Legislature on November 22, 1827 as a result of a petition by Henry Box.

Henry and Jacob Box were neighbors in the 1830 census of St. Clair Co. AL and the age difference suggests a father/son relationship although other genealogist believed they were brothers.

Henry is said to have had a wife, Cassandra.

There was an estate sale for Henry Box in 1835 in St. Clair Co. AL. Among the items sold was a black hog, 9 small hogs, 2 sows and 26 pigs; 17 head of sheep; 2 bulls, 3 cows, and a calf; 4 bee gums; about 150 bushels of corn; a couple stacks of fodder; a couple of plows (but no mule or horse); and assortment of tools like axes, saws, hoes, a mattock, scythe, knife, frow, and auger; and 3 beds and furniture, pots; pan, table and a small trunk; having a total value of $382.79. Among the purchasers of items at the sale was Jacob Box, possible son or brother; James Box, son of Henry; Margaret Box, daughter of James Box; J. Box, thought to be John Box son of James; Allen Box, son of Henry; H. F. Box, probably Henry W. Box, a son of Allen Box; and M. Box, possibly Margaret Box, wife of Seth, who bought most of the furniture.

Find A Grave Memorial# 6677496 as of Aug 2015 has:

"She is the daughter of Lt. Joseph Alexander Adair Jr. and Sarah Dillard Adair.". Geni profile: Cassandra (Adair) McCrary

She was named Cassy McCrary, my daughter, in Joseph Adair's 1812 will.

It does not seem possible for her to have been a wife of Henry Box, or a mother of his children.
