I have come accross Catharin's Cornelisz Baptism records, and it states her father was Evertsz Cornelisz and mother Maria (dogter syn genamnt, Catharin.) Date of baptism 2 July 1673.

The "Evertsz" part of Catharina's surname suggests that she was the daughter of Evert. The first baptism to take place on or after 1 July 1673 (the arrival date of the ship "Europa") at Cape Town for a child with the name Catharina (or variants thereof) happens to have been the following day. The parents were given as Evert Cornelisz and Maria Syn Siegertz (on baptism records)

Just not sure her parents d.o.b. are correct though.

In her will, dated 1710, she states very clearly that she was born aboard the ship Europa sailing to the Cape from the Netherlands ( gebooren op't schip Europa (herwaarts komende) tusschen 't patria en Cabo voorsz' oud negen en dertigh jaren ) thirty nine years before.

The VOC Ship data web site lists two ships named Europa in use at that period. The one was first used by the VOC in October 1672 when it was captured from the French and sailed from Batavia for Europe, arriving at the Cape on 15 April 1673 and departing again on 29th April. It was captured by the English at St Helena May 1673.

The second ship Europa first came into service in 1671 and seems to have made its first voyage to the East from Texel on 20 December 1672 for Colombo, calling at the Cape between 1st July 1673 and the 18th July 1673.

Although she states her age as 39 in November 1710, suggesting a birth date of 1671, during 1670, 1671 and 1672 there was not one child recorded in the Cape Town baptismal registers with the name Catharina. The first to appear is Catharin the daugher of Evert Cornelisse and his wife Maria, baptised 2nd July 1673, which would match both the date of arrival of the ship Europa and the name of the father. We note, too, that Coenraad Jans Visser is also stated to be 2 years older than he in fact was. It is not uncommon to find ages incorrectly stated in these documents, but they are usually a year or two less than the true age, but in this case both are stated to be about two years older than they in fact were. The childrens' ages, given in the same document, start at three years older for the eldest child, and get progressively less for each child till the ages match the true ages for the younger children.

Coenraad Johannes VISSER, * 1656 Nederland, kom saam met moeder by die Kaap aan in 1662. Hy was gedoop op 8 April 1663. Trou op 5 Aug 1685, Rondebosch met Catharina JANSZ van der Zee, gebore op die skip Europa in 1673. Coenraad en Catharina het 10 kinders gehad. Coenraad en Catharina stel hulle testament op 15-11-1710.

Catherina apparently arrived at the Cape in 1671, in fact, she was born on the ship "Europa." Apparently she married Johannes after being married to Coenraad. There is a lot of confusion here as the children listed under both marriages overlap. I have tried IGI and it does not straighten it out.

Catherine was an orphan from the Netherlands.
