Catherine Margaret Awerkamp

Catherine Margaret Sanders Awerkamp and Francis Joseph Awerkamp were married August 9, 1893 in Quincy, Illinois by J.P. Kerr.

Catherine moved from Quincy, Ill to California in 1903 and she arrived by train. They lived at 1340 S. Olive, Los Angeles, CA while Frank built their first home on Occidental.

Catherine wanted her children to be born in Quincy, Ill where she and their father Frank were born. She traveled from California back to Illinois to await each of their births. Her last 2 children, Roy and Mildred, were her only 2 children born in California.

Catherine LOVED a good game of Poker. Friday nights were always set aside for Penny Ante Poker with family. Catherine also loved to play solitaire and had a tray that she rested on her lap that she used to set out her cards and play.

Sometime after the death of her husband, Catherine moved from the main house at 440 N. Occidental to a small unit at the back of the property. Her Daughter Lila and Lila's family lived in the front portion of the house. Catherine left the property to Lila upon her death. Lila left the home to her son, Robert, upon her death. The home was eventually sold.

Catherine died of heart failure.
