Mrs. James Handley

After a serious illness of about three weeks, grandma Handley passed this life last Sunday at the home of her son, Frank, south of this city.

Catherine Thrap was born at Danville, Ill., Nov 10, 1834 and died near Hubbell, Nebraska March 22, 1914, aged 75 years, 4 months and 12 days.

She moved to Pontiac, Ill., in 1858 and was married to James Handley March 1, 1860, to this union four children were born, of whom two sons and one daughter survive her. One daughter, Mrs. Alice Johnson, of Fruita, Colorado died December 16, 1911. Her husband preceded her 3 months and 16 days. The remaining children are, Chas. Handley, of Elm, Oklahoma; Frank of Munden and Mrs. Emma Umphenour of Beatrice, Nebraska.

Mrs. Handley lived at Pontiac, Ill., till 1884 when she moved with her family to Narka, Kansas where she resided until March 1912, when she moved to this city, residing here till her husbands death. Soon after she visited her only brother, Enoch Thrap, of Madrid, Iowa, who as that time was dangerously ill. While there she contracted the disease of which she died.

She was a member for years of the M. E. Church and lived a consistent Christian live. After a long, busy, and useful life, she died as she had lived-honored, trusted, and loved. She reared her own monument in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a loving mother and her life work was complete.

She leaves to mourn her loss three children, 14 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at Ida conducted by Rev. Kellogg of the Hubbell M. E. church and the remains laid to rest in the Ida cemetery by her husband.--Hubbell Standard.
