=====================
"March 8th 1830, Horrible Catastrophe! Was drowned in the Shenandoah River about ten miles below New Market and near Mr. Lawrence Pitman's in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Mr. Townsend Overholt (of Rockingham) Mrs. Pitman, wife of Andrew Pitman. They were attempting to cross the River, in a skiff, just above the Dam of Mr. Pitmans, and while on their way there came a blast of wind which so much alarmed Mrs. Pitman that she caught Mr. Overholt around the arms which prevented him from rowing the skiff, and unfortunately the wind being against them and the current drawing very hard they were precipitated over the dam into the abyss below where they fell victims of the watery elements."
Andrew Pittman and Catharine Allen. They were married on 22 Aug 1825 [21, 22]. They had 1 child.
