Celia Garza was said to be extremely close to her mother. She was most likely very helpful to her mother in helping watch over her siblings, seeing as how she was the oldest of Celestino and Manuela Garza's children.
According to Eli Garza (her only surving brother who wasn't born by the time of her death) he had heard stories from his other sisters, that Celia was at times, very afraid of her father, Celestino. His children all remember him as being a very strict father who was a stern disciplinarian. While the family was living in Hebronville, Texas, Celestino once threatened to "kill her" if she continued to date a local young man from the area who's surname was Montemayor. Although he was undoubtedly only using a 'figure of speech,' Celia reportedly took his words seriously.
As a teen-ager, Celia developed a kidney infection that was never cured. During this time she was taken to a hospital in either Premont or Falfurrias, Texas. Despite her treatment, the doctors were unsuccesful in treating her kidneys. Sadly, they informed her parents that there was nothing more that they could do for her, and they suggested that they take her home so that she could spend the rest of last days at home. Those days were spent in her own private room at home in Hebronville. She died in the Summer of 1950. Celia was a lovely young lady that passed away at the tender young of age of 19.
Her parents were naturally devestated. Her death in large part proved to be part of what was no doubt a "clinical" depression for her father, Celestino in his later years. Those of her siblings that could remeber her, missed her especially during the rest of their own childhood.
