Cellar was the daughter of Thomas Rice and Katheren (Hughes) Rice, born abt 1750 in Cumberland, Cumberland, Virginia. She married John Cardwell, Jr. in Virginia, but no marriage records have been found.

There were ten children born of the marriage, being: John R, 1769-1825; Elizabeth Ann, 1774-1858; Mary, 1778-1850; Wiltshire, 1780-1846; Martha Patsy, 1782- ; William, 1784-1820; Esther, 1784-1822; Thomas, 1786-1867; Ester, 1788-1845; and James R, 1792-1866.

Cellar died sometime between 1820 and 1825 in Mercer County, Kentucky.
