About Charles Biddle Shepard, US Congress
Mary Spaight Donnell (1817-1883); She m. U.S. Rep. Charles Biddle Shepaard (1808-1843). Charles was educated at the Univ of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as were most of the Spaights (Note: 250 acres of land had been donated by a Matthew McCauley from Ireland for this campus). He graduated in 1827 and in 1828 he passed the Bar and was chosen to the State House of Represenatives to complete the unexpired term of Charles Spaight. From 1831-1837 he served in the 25 and 26th Congresses. He d. 25 Oct 1843 and was buried at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
US Congressman. Shepard served as a member of North Carolina state legislature from 1831 to 1832. In 1837, he was elected as a U.S. Representative from North Carolina, serving until 1841.
