About Charles Boase

Notes for Charles BOASE:

Charles Boase was a Farm Labourer aged 13 years as listed on the 1851census. He emigrated to Australia at aged 17 and on the 18th Nov 1855 and married his cousin Ann Enis Skewes Betty at the house of Charles Boase in Daylesford. The witnesses at the wedding were Isablela Munro and Thomas Webb. Charles died from injuries received in a mining accident, the diagnosis was shown as rupture of the kidney on his death certificate. Died at 11am on 13th September as a result of injuries received in a mining accident at Reedy Creek. Buried at the Kilmore cemetery. Ann was just one month pregnant with their youngest and only surviving child when Charles passed away. Witnesses at his burial were John Griffith and Henry Bosence ** it is interesting to note that his Grand- mother was Joan Bosence - perhaps Henry was a cousin??

Notes for Anne Ennis Skewes BETTY:

Anne Arrived in Port Phllip on the Accington in August 1862 and married Charles in December of that year. Witness at the wedding of Charles and Anne were Isabella Munro and Thomas Webb. She was just 23 in 1868 when she gave birth to her one surviving daughter Annie Boase. At that time she had already buried one daughter in 1865, had a stillborn child in 1866, buried another daughter and her husband within five weeks of each other in 1867. So much grief for one so young and she was to live just another five years herself. She died of tuberculosis when she was only 27. Buried in Wesleyan central section Grave 14 of the Franklinford Cemetery 1861 Census : Drews Court, St.Austell, Cornwall, England ; Anne Betty, u/m, 16yrs, drapers apprentice, b.Madron, Cornwall ; with her mother & father-in-law Thomas S. Coom, head, 34yrs, releiving officer, b.St.Austell, Cornwall ; wife Harriet Coom, 38yrs, b.Kea, Cornwall ; son-in-law William R. Betty, u/m, 18yrs, carpenters (ap) ; daughter-in-law Harriett Betty, 14yrs ; both born Madron, Cornwall ; daighter Mary A. Coom, 10yrs ; sons Thomas S. Coom, 9yrs, scholar ; Charles S. Coom, 7yrs, scholar ; Peter S. Com, 5yrs, scholar ; William H. Coom, 3yrs, scholar ; John S. Coom, 7 months ; all Coom children born St.Austell, Cornwall. Ann Betty, 18yrs, housemaid, arrived into Port Phillip, Victoria, assisted passenger, on the ship "Accrington" on 24th August 1862, (page 159 - 14), sailed from Southampton on 4th June 1862, C of E, sponsered by Samuel Higgott, Geelong.

She was buried on Christmas Day 1865 ii. Harriett BOASE, B: 1865 in Daylesford, D: 03 Aug 1867 in Daylesford. Notes for Harriett BOASE: Harriet died aged two years and six months from Colonial Fever she had contracted some ten days previously. iii.
