Charles Bowyer ADDERLEY
(1814 - 1905)
Politician. Later created Baron Norton, Adderley was a British parliamentarian who vigorously opposed a Colonial Office scheme to establish a convict settlement at the Cape. In 1850 the city fathers of a grateful Cape Town renamed their main thoroughfare in his honour.
