Died at Virginia Water, Surrey, 29th January 1931.

He played his club cricket at the Esher C.C., as did his brother Morice Carlos Clarke , who also played for Surrey 1875-8 and Northamptonshire 1884-85. Charles played in 10 matches for Surrey 1873-82 and in 24 first-class matches in total, his last one being for I Zingari in 1890. He was a stock-jobber in the City of London.

At the time of the 1881 Census he was living with his widowed mother, Rosa C., aged 59 and born at Hinckley, Leicestershire, who lived on income from dividends, at The Old House, High Street, Esher, Surrey. Also present was Margaret K.Clarke, an unmarried daughter aged 21, born at Esher, a visitor, Clement E.Cotterill, aged 27 (he was also a member of the London Stock Exchange and of I Zingari, and played for Middlesex), a cousin Elizabeth Clarke, aged 75 and a grandson Kenneth Dowson aged one. There are six domestic and two outside servants.
