About Charles Selby "Sel" Dean
GEDCOM Note

[g675.ftw]

REF: Ralph Dean: "Sel tried vainly to scratch a living from the 56 acres owned by his mother, but finally in 1938 or so, he bought a Model A coupe so he could help Tom Mays pull the Route 5 mail run out of Greenville. This was a part time job, so we were still not rolling in the money. He quit this around 1946 as a result of poor health. He was scrupulously honest, but was not a good father. He could not carry on a quiet conversation with his children, and as a result we were somewhat alienated from him. He was not cruel, but appeared to be preoccupied withother things. Perhaps his financial failure. Certainly in later years he was burdened with poor health and haunted by the loss of son Charles in WWII. Loueva Taylor reports that he quit high schoolbecause the teacher accused him of passing some wind"
