Yes, that is the Charles Derby of New Almaden, he was married to my 2nd Great Aunt, Mary Carson. Mary's father was George Ryckman Carson who was the postmaster of New Almaden and, her brother, my Great father was the superintendent. What is your connection to the mine? Charles Campbell Derby was superintendent of mines in Nevada City, Calif., 1911-1913. Previously he had been superintendent at the Almaden Mines in Virginia City, Nevada. He owned a fruit ranch in San Jose from 1923 to 1941, and died in 1942 or 1943. His wife was Mary Derby, and he had three children, Maraquita, Tom, and Eleanor.
