About Charles Gott
Husband of Martha (Mathews) Griffiths Dean (1845-1906). Charles and Martha were married on July 13, 1894 in Wapello County, Iowa. Charles' first wife was Catherine Jones (1836-1883). Charles and Catherine had at least nine children together including: James J., Ralph, Evan, Elizabeth, Mary, Jonas, Anna, Charles and William Leroy Gott. After Catherine died, Charles married Martha (Mathews) Griffiths who would marry William Dean after Charles died. Charles was the son of Ralph Gott and Elizabeth (Hall) Gott.
Charles fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was mustered in on August 21, 1862 in Capt. Vaughn's Independent Battery, Illinois Light Artillery. He received a disability discharge on March 5, 1865 after almost 3 years in the service.
