Charles Avner Groover was born in 1829
On November 9, 1854, Charles A. Groover married Mary Ann Rushing in Bulloch County, Georgia. Their children include John M. (1858), William Avner (1859), Sarah Ellen (1861) and Jane H. Groover (1863).
In 1860, Charles, his wife, Ann, and sons, John and William, were residing in Bulloch County, Georgia.
He served and died as a Confederate soldier with the 47th Georgia Infantry Regiment during the Civil War.
On Feb. 28, 1863, Charles A. Groover, age 34, died. A Memorial Cenotaph "The Confederates Buried at Upper Black Creek Church" has been placed in the Upper Black Creek Cemetery, Brooklet, Bulloch County, Georgia.
