About Charles Hale
Journalist, politician and diplomat. Hale, son of journalist Nathan Hale and grand-nephew to the patriot Nathan Hale, was a journalist and literary writer. He founded the short lived "To-Day: a Boston Literary Journal" in 1852, was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1855, served as consul-general in Egypt 1864 to 1870, was elected to the Massachusetts Senate in 1871, and served as US Assistant Secretary of State under Secretary Hamilton Fish 1872 to 1873.
