Mr.

Martin was employed full time from the age of sixteen, subsequently joining the night shift at Chrysler Corp. upon high school graduation and enrolling in the pre-med curriculum at the University of Dayton. In 1933, forced by economic necessity, Mr. Martin abandoned a medical education, transferring to the UD's evening law school and obtaining factory employment at The National Cash Register Company as a clerk in timekeeping, ending that career some forty-four years later as a board-appointed officer of NCR Corporation. His interest in medicine had been renewed by two terms' service as a Trustee of Miami Valley Hospital.

In 1937, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Elizabeth Propst. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, their daughter and son-in-law, Joyce E. & Richard D. Miller of Hollansburg, their son, James F. Martin of Vandalia, OH, and by two grandchildren, Susan A. Libert & Timothy of Tiffin, OH. & Douglas S. Miller of Dayton.

Mr. Martin was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, having served for many years as a Sunday School superintendent and general counsel. He was a member of the Dayton, Ohio State, and American Bar associations, and of Mystic Lodge No. 405, and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton. Until recently, Mr. Martin was very active in the Montgomery County Genealogy Society. Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. James K. Wagner officiating.
