Charles was in Tennessee and born in North or South Carolina in the records I have. I've not found records of Michael in the Carolinas. I felt it was a difficult connection to make, in the absence of anything other than shared surnames and being of correct ages for father and son. The thing that really stuck me when going back over the records was Michael's death date:
Michael McClellan 1710–1757 BIRTH 1710 • Maghera, Derry, 5296, County Cavan, Ireland DEATH 1757 • Pelham, Hampshire, Massachusetts, British Colonial America
The year of his death considerably precedes Charles' day of birth in my records:
Charles McClellan 1767–1852 BIRTH 10 MAR 1767 • Charlotte, Mecklenburg, North Carolina, USA DEATH 17 JAN 1852 • Smith Co, TN
This information is from my Ancestry tree (RHR-VAS). I'd be delighted to be convinced that Michael is Charles' father.
If someone can give me more details on the genetic study, I'd be delighted to again connect Charles to Michael and Jane. Basically we need some plausible genetic evidence that connects Michael & Jane's other children with Charles. The evidence I've seen on Charles' location and date of birth is sketchy at least, he may have been born earlier.
Finally, it is possible that Charles is descended from a brother of Michael:
originally taken from "A History of Colrain (etc)" by Lois McClellan Patrie.
Michael McClellan came to America with his brother John and eight of his 10 children in 1749. Michael, his wife and their children spent some time in Woburn or Worcester, Mass., and soon settled in Colrain, where they had friends and relatives. Michael bought a fifty-acre lot from Andrew Smith and built a house on it. At the beginning of the French and Indian War in 1750, when Indian attacks began to be made in the vicinity, he removed with his family and several others to Pelham, a less exposed town. His resources being soon exhausted, he secured work lumbering on the river. The exposure brought on pneumonia, from which he died in 1757. The whereabouts of his grave is unknown. Michael McClellan was said to have been slim, fair-haired and blue-eyed, and to have "been much on the water."
John McClellan did have a son named Charles about which little is known and documented:
Charles McClelland 1730–1858 BIRTH 1730 • Antrim, Ulster, Ireland DEATH 8 JUL 1858 • Ohio, United States 9th cousin 8x removed
Considering that Ancestry files have him 128 years of age at death it seems likely that his death date and death location are questionable.
Who put this statement here as no one has claimed that this Cumming was Cherokee*. " Native American Cherokee documentation does not support the assertion that Sarah was Native American. These documents apply to a Charles M. McClellan who was born around 1825. See the uploaded statements from Charles M. McClellan's file. Sarah could have been Cherokee but the documentation found by several others is not documentation that applies to this Charles McClellan."
The most official looking documentation I've found indicating Charles' wife was Cherokee is this one:

I found the possible Cummings connection, again I'm looking for genetic confirmation. I believe many have thought Sarah was a Native American was because of her place of birth:
