About Charles Wesley Middaugh
Charles' father died when he was only 9 years old. He learned to be both a carpenter and wagon-maker. In 1855 he and Elizabeth moved to Arney, Indiana where he opened a store. After losing nearly all of his possessions in a fire, he moved in 1872 to Salem, Dent County, MO. In Salem he bought land and built a house that he and Elizabeth lived in the rest of their lives. He was the second mayor of Salem and served several terms as such.
