The Saturday, May 8, 1954, edition of the Janesville (Rock County, Wisconsin) Gazette carried the following obituary for Charles Ira Ormsbee (page 2, col. 2):
C.I. ORMSBEE
C.I. Ormsbee, 76, of 750 S. Main St., retired rural mail carrier, a resident of Janesville for 53 years, died at 9 p.m. Friday [7 May 1954] in Mercy Hospital.
Born in Walworth County, May 13, 1877, Mr. Ormsbee was a cheesemaker in Lima and Platteville [Wisconsin] before moving to [Janesville]. For 14 years he was mail carrier on Route 5.
Mr. Ormsbee and Mae Bullock were married in Whitewater [Walworth County, Wisconsin] in 1899. Mrs. Ormsbee died in 1909, and a daughter, Marion Ormsbee died May 1, 1952.
Surviving are two sons, Loren L. and Glenn I. Ormsbee, both of Janesville; a daughter, Hazel Ormsbee, Janesville; three grandchildren [Glenn's children, Barbara, Karen and Donald]; one great grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday [11 May 1954] in the Overton Funeral Home, the Rev. Sidney Lewis, associate pastor, Cargill Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
