Washington County, Utah, the oldest child of Charles Franklin Stevens Sr. and Olive Emily DeMille. On December 21, 1897, he married Aurelia Spencer and they had 13 children: Rachel, Charles Alma, Maude Asenath, Melborn, Edson, Vance, Grace, Orson, Ray, Lucy, Howard, Emily, and Virginia.
After burying seven of their children as babies, Franklin told Aurelia that he could not make another little coffin and bury another baby. Nine months after their youngest child was born, he got sick but continued to work in the fields with his brothers who lived in Stevensville (Enoch) Iron County, Utah. He was leading a horse to the gate when he had a sudden heart attack and fell dead. Aurelia was left alone to raise their surviving children.
