CK played the organ at St Stephen's Church in Bournemouth, where Percy Whitlock had a strong connection. CK and his wife Connie Asquith moved to West Moors, around 1946. Joan then rented a room with Mrs Edna Whitlock, Percy's widow. Meanwhile Charles Keel had been head choirboy in Percy Whitlock's choir. On his return from duties in Persia he visited Edna Whitlock, and thus met Joan Witter.
