About Charlotte Arledge
Notes from Pam Wilson's Arledge Family History Project:
Fairfield SC court case: LYDIA ARLEDGE, Charlotte Broom by Isiah Hinnant, Lucas A. Broom, William Arledge, Isaac Arledge, Eliza Hughes, J.H. Hughes, John Arledge, Austin D. Arledge, Willis Arledge, N.C. Bailes VS James Arledge, William Arledge, Mary Arledge, James Broom and Susan Arledge. Winnsboro Bill 3, 1828
On 18 Aug 1834, Isaac Arledge conveyed to Lucas A and Charlotte Arlege Broom, for the sum of $5, 323 acres of land on Little Cedar Creek to be held in trust for his grandchildren: Mary, Harriet and Phillip Broom. "That Charlotte Arledge Broom owned or expected to deal in considerable property transactions is attested to by and [sic] agreement drawn up between she [sic] and her husband declaring her a 'free agent' from 15 March 1833, and that she and ehr father could make business rtansactions without any restraint or responsibility of her husband." [From "The Broom Family" Ch. 9 (author unknown); cites as source Fairfield Deed Book LL p. 235 and Book KK, p. 436.]

There is a long entry in this book, Fairfield County Family Histories, about the Broom family. Gosh I'll have to copy it because it's too much to transcribe right now. The connections are
Luke A. Broom married Charlotte Arledge. Luke A. Broom was the son of William Broom, b. 1753. William is buried in Fairfield County, 3/10 mile south of intersection of US 321 and Road 30, 50 yards west of US 321.
Another connection to the Broom family is through Victor Broom who married Lydia Arledge. Victor Broom was the son of John Broom. John was the brother of William above.
