About Charlotte Kemp
Charlotte was born in Nelson to Dr. John Danforth Greenwood highly respected in the area for his contributions to political and social life in Nelson, in addition he filled several important positions and was the first Inspector of Schools, Principal of the Boys’ College, Editor of the Nelson Examiner and Sergeant at Arms in the House of Representatives. Charlotte married Dr. William George Kemp In Nelson when he was working at the Nelson Hospital. They moved to Wellington, and then Frederick returned home with his family to London, England. Their daughter Elise Kemp was the only New Zealand nurse to be killed in active duty during WWI. NZ Evening Post reports that when Dr. William George Kemp passed away in 1919 that he left his widow in Hastings, Sussex, England. Charlotte passed away at the age of 90 in 1939 in England.
