About Chesley Locklear
Chesley was the son of Zachariah and Matilda "Till" Bullard Locklear. He married Olive Jackson on Sep. 12, 1885 in Robeson County, North Carolina.
The following was taken from the Oct. 7, 1938 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:
Body of Chesley Locklear, aged Indian who had been missing for several days from his home between Red Springs and Pembroke, was found in a ditch near his home this morning by Willie McMillan.
Rural Policeman Bob Furmage stated he found no indication of foul play, the Indian apparently having died of natural causes, and Coroner D. W. Biggs said no inquest would be held.
- **NOTE: According to his NC death certificate, he passed away on Oct. 5th and was buried on Oct. 9, 1938.
- *NOTE: He was the younger brother of Preston Locklear. In 1887, Preston was appointed by the North Carolina General Assembly as one of the four original trustees of the Croatan Normal School, known today as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
