Chris Bam (1951 - 2008)
Brief overview:
Chris (26), a well known dairy farmer from Koppies in the Free State, sustained several gunshot wounds to his stomach and leg during the invasion on their Doornfontein smallholding in Pretoria. His son Andre was executed with one shot to his head on 28th July 2008. Chris passed three weeks later on 20th August.
Andre, who played rugby for the Griffons in the Northern Free State, had helped his father move from the Free State to Doornfontein, Pretoria as he wanted to retire. The father and son had farmed in Koppies, Free State together and when the Chris decided to retire. Andre also moved with him to the Doornpoort smallholding they had bought together. Chris, like his son, was also a sportsman, gaining his northern-Free State colours in cycling.
Chris succumbed to his injuries three weeks later, and was buried at the Dutch Reformed Church in Koppies. Survivors are wife Veronica, daughters Adelle and Lindy and son Derik.
