Chris Pretorius (1967 - 2009)
Chris (42), was shot dead in the family home in Bosloerie Street, Stonehenge, Nelspruit, on 26th January 2009.
Two armed robbers gained access to the house through the kitchen window.
Chris’s nephew, Jan (25) was sitting watching television while his cousin Chané (15) was asleep on a mattress on the floor. Jan saw the men breaking in and ran to Chris's and his wife Karenita (38) bedroom. Chris jumped out of bed and the perpetrators shot him in the neck and chest. A fragment of a bullet hit Jan in the right hip.
Jan grabbed the firearm from the gun safe, while Chris and Karenita hid in the bathroom.
Jan realised that Chané was still in the lounge, but he didn’t know where Charise Chris’s other daughter was. Charisse had sent a text message to her Godfather, Charl Oosthuizen, saying, “Help, they are shooting at us..”
As the attackers fled, they fired more shots as they ran out of the kitchen.
Paramedics arrived, but Chris had already passed away.
Police spokesperson, Dawie Pretorius (no relation) said that the electric fence on the wall had been cut.
No-one has been arrested.
