Christel Friedrichsen (1941 - 2007)

Brief overview:

Christel (66) and her husband, of 44 years, Edgar (74) were attacked on their smallholding on the night of 28th March 2007 after returning home from neighbours. Christel was shot three times and passed at the scene. Edgar, a German immigrant, was shot four times - one of the bullets was through his cheek and palate, one shot in the arm and the other in his stomach. He survived the attack, but suffers a speech impairment. The couple was shot with Edgar's firearm.

  • The three accused were sentenced in the Circuit Court in March 2008. Jan Son Letshobe (26), and Kleinbooi Mokhutswani, (24), were sentenced to life for the murder, another 20 years for robbery and 10 years for attempted murder.
  • Letshobe was also sentenced to seven years in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The third accused,
  • Frans Letshobe (19), was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of Christel and another 10 years for attempted murder and 18 years for robbery.
