About Christian Crawford
'A concise history of Port Beaufort & White Sands (also known as Witsand) including Family Trees White Sands & Port Beaufort' by John McGregor.
Daughter and heiress of Alexander Crawford of Kerse, Ayrshire (and widow of William Ballenden of Stenness) the second wife of Capt James Moodie, seventh Laird of Melsetter, was "somewhat of a character and a lady of strong passions" who resided alternately at Aikerness House, Evie, and at Melsetter. She managed the estate during her son's minority and she "ruled with a rod of iron" in the difficult times of being "a woman guardian of the fortunes of a Hanovrian family in a Jacobite country". She was still living on 17 April 1749.
