Mr. Nelsen was born Jan 24. 1845 Kjelguaren, Gudunssogn, Alburg, Denmark, the youngest son of Knud Christensen and Karen Margarett Jensen. The family stayed the first winter in Salt Lake City and moved to Bountiful the following spring.

Mr. Nelsen's first mission was performed at the age of 18 in 1863 when he was called to haul rock from Cottonwood for the Salt Lake temple, using three yoke of cattle.

In 1866 he crossed the plains again, this time to help other family immigrants reach the valley. He also was a pioneer of the Muddy, being called there with others in 1868 and drifting back to Bountiful when Brigham Young released them there. November 22, 1869, he married Charlote Vienna Call in the Old Endowment house in Salt Lake City. She died Nov 21, 1934, one day before they had been married 65 years.

In the spring of 1883 he went to Denmark on a mission, laboring in the the Alburg conference where he was born. He was a pioneer rancher on Salweatus Creek, Rich Co., near where Woodruff is now located and later did the same thing on the Portneuf in Idaho near where Chesterfield and Bancroft are located.

Mr. and Mrs. Nelsen moved back to Bountiful in 1903 where the they have since resided. He has labored as a ward teacher, a Sunday school teacher, in the bishopric as second and then as first counselor and has done considerable temple work in Salt Lake City and in St George.

He is survived by two children, Ephraim Nelsen of Chesterfield, Idaho and Olena N. Deveraux of Bountiful and eight grandchildren.
