About Christian S. Ropp
Grandfather (Christian Ropp) came to Iowa from Canada, where he was born, after breaking up with an old girl friendt. It was rather hard on him, and so he told his mother he was going to Iowa. So one morning he got up and packed a few things and started out on foot. Said good-bye, walked out across the fields with his mother watching with tears in her eyes for as far as she could see him go.
He worked in IOwa. George thought he wasn't 21 yet when he came to Iowa, but Jeff thought he was.
One Sunday a group of girls were out walking and a broom was lying on the ground. The other girls all walked over it but Grandmother (Lydia Yoder) stooped down adn picked it up and set it up along the fence. Grandpa saw this and said to the other boys, who were with him, that she is the one he wants for his wife.
