Notes
From Page 276 of Old Greenock from the Earliest Times to the Early Part of the Nineteenth ...By George Williamson
family pedigree already cited bears that John Schaw by his marriage with Jean Cunninghame had five sons and five daughters—" 1st, Alexander, who predeceased his father without issue; 2nd, James, who succeeded; 3rd, William, of Spangow; 4th, Patrick of Kelsoeland; 5th, Robert, ancestor of the Schaws of Ganoway, in Ireland. The daughters were 1st, Elizabeth, who married Hugh Montgomery [or Montgomerie] of Braidstone, who was created Viscount of Ardes in Ireland in 1622, and afterwards disponed Braidstone to his nephew John Shaw; 2nd, Isobel, who married John Lindsay of the Dunrod family; 3rd, Marion, who married Campbell of Doucathall [Dovecoathall]; 4th, Christian, who married Patrick Montgomery of Blackhouse in Scotland, and Craigbouie in Ireland; 5th, Giles, who married James Crawford of Flattertoun." This enumeration of the family has been taken from Craufurd's "History of Renfrewshire" and Nisbet's MS. " Genealogical History " in the Advocates' Library.
