Notes for Christian Stover: Indications are that Christian Stover, Sr. immigrated from Alsace-Lorraine and settled in Pennsylvania. He was listed on the 1790 census in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He may have married in Pennsylvania. He came to America with a brother, Joseph, and possibly another named John. By the late 1790's he was in Elizabethton, East Tennessee. No records on Christian after 1811. In the 1790 census, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, Christian had 5 sons and 2 daughters.
Christian Stover, Joseph Stover, and John Stover came to Pennsylvania Colony before the Revolutionary War. They were Swiss-German. They Settled in the western county of Lancaster (which encompassed all of Western Pennsylvania at that time) near what is Harrisonburg today. They were all granted land in Dauphin and Lebanon Counties(formed from Lancaster). Joseph later moved Rockingham, Virginia: John went to South Carolina after the war, then on to Carter County, Tennessee: Christian was in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania in 1790. In the 1791 census of the Territory south of the Ohio River, Washington County(or what was known as the Wautaga Settlement of what is now eastern Tennessee and Carter County), Christian owned land along the Doe River and property in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He served as magistrate. It is believed he moved with his son, Samuel to Indiana Territory in about 1811.
