Notes for CHRISTINA (CHRISTY) MCKAY: "Christina was born in Woodstock, Ontario on March 22, 1854, and when 2 years of age left with her parents for Kincardine, Ontario, where she lived for 18 years. She was married to John McKay in 1871, and shortly after her marriage went with her husband to Silver Island on Lake Superior, but only remained there one year. Then came the call of the west. In 1875 they came to Winnipeg, staying only a few short weeks and the call of the land moved them to St. Andrew's district near Selkirk. In 1877 they took up land in the Manitou district where they lived for 16 years. In 1897 they moved to Gilbert Plains, making the journey overland by means of an open wagon, before the advent of the railroad. On arrival here they took up land in the district now known as Glenlyon. John McKay died in 1909, but Mrs. Mckay carried on the farm with the aid of her children until 1940. She then went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Carnegie, who died in 1944. She then moved to town with another daughter, Mrs. Wm. Schaefer, where she resided until her death in 1954." - from Settlers of the Plains, by O.E.A. Brown, 1953
