Christo Smit (1967 - 2009)

Brief overview:

Christo Smit (42) and his partner Flip Nel (46) were gunned down by four armed men as they left their Elandsfontein smallholding’s homestead in Pretoria to go to work. An employer of the two men found them badly injured after hearing the gunshots. Smit, a supervisor for one of the production lines at cosmetic company Prime Products, was shot in the stomach, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

“They were gunned down blindly, just as they left their house,’ said John Foulds, 52, a neighbour who rushed to the scene and helped make the injured men comfortable until the air-ambulance and police showed up two hours later. Flip Nel survived but is wheelchair bound and the bullet is still in his spine.
