About Christoffel Bernardus (Stoffel) O'Neill

Son of Hendrik O'Neil and Anna Maria Helena Van Der Merwe (Came from Natal South Africa to Rhodesia in 1919)T he family farmed on Manzi farm in Rhodesia which was on the road to Enkeldoorn. During the rainy season the road was often unpassable at their farm due to the low water drift and they helped many stranded travellers. they sold butter and cream at Enkeldoorn which had to be transported by donkey cart.

In 1946 they moved to Gelukverwacht where they had six children. (I can only find record of five- Tess) and started producing tobacco. Sons Hendrik and Stoffel jnr took over where they introduced an abbattoir and stock feed plant and introduced a wild-life conservancy.

Stoffel was the youngest (I think) (All left the Enkeldoorn (Chivhu area except Stoffel)

The Whites of Enkeldoorn 1880-1980 is a history of the families of European descent who settled in the area of Enkeldoorn (renamed Chivi) Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Author - Sarel van der Walt.

Stoffel farmed on Geluksvarwacht where in 1948 he started producing tobacco with success, he retired from active farming and his sons Hendrik and Stoffel took over. Their main farming being high quality cattle. They introduced an abattoir and stock feed plant, serving the district and beyond. They established a wild life conservatory on Geluksverwacht and neighbouring farms.
