About Christoffer Giedde
Danish officer of some merit who ended up in Swedish captivity. When his home province of Scania (Skåne) in eastern Denmark was conquered by the Swedes, he eventually pledged loyalty to the Swedish king and was granted noble status in Sweden under the surname of "Gädda".
In 1676, Scania was briefly re-conquered by the Danes and Gedde/Gädda now registered with the Danish authorities again. At the time he signed his name "Christoffer Gedde". Only months later, he applied to the Swedish king for a safeguard certificate for his estates. In the autumn of 1677, Gedde was ordered to betake himself to Vimmerby in Sweden together with the rest of the Danish-born nobility in Scania. Gedde begged for an exemption since his wife's health was so frail. We don't know whom he was married to at the time, but eventually Gedde went to Vimmerby. In 1679, Scania was returned to Sweden and he and his family could return to their home.
Some sites claim that Gedde was a major but the Danish records only have proof of his status as a captain (Hirsch&Hirsch , Register of Danish Officers, Danish Royal Library, added here in the sources). A source that proves that he was a major would be welcome.
