Christopher Grider was the son of Jacob H. and Mahala (Pennington) Grider. He married Mary C. Conner on December 14, 1830 in Putnam County, Indiana. Mary was the daughter of Zaddock and Jane (Smith) Conner.

To this union five children were born Henry, James, Eliza, Hamilton and Samuel.

Probate dated December 17, 1853 appraiser of his personal property were T. Futherson, Richard Futherson and John Shadle.

John Shadle married the widow Mary Grider, she died a year later.
