Christopher C Holmes

Christopher C. Holmes was a Revolutionary War soldier in the summer of 1781, in an area of asouth Carolina now included in Horry County, under the command of Major John Warden. Christopher married Martha mansfield, daughter of Richard Mansfield and Elizabeth Durant.

Source: The "Descendants of Christopher C. Holmes" is the work of Frances Orene Booth Sthphens (1915-1987) and Mary Sue Booth Mew. These ladies were first cousins. A copy of their work was provided by Patricia Stephens Fipps, daughter of Frances Orene Booth Stephens.

They had three sons: James, Richard and Benjamin and one daughter, Susannah. Don Holmes told this to me and he lives in NC but close to Horry. I now have reason to believe his father was Charles Holmes who married Jesse Croom's widow, Susannah?, in Goochland Co. Va. They had a son named, Christopher, and traveled between Va. and Wayne Co. NC. Susannah had older sons by Croom who owned plantations in both states. Also, Wayne Co., NC, has records listing both Charles and Christopher Holmes as grantors in the deed index. Caveat: Charles had a grandson by the same name and it is easy to confuse the two men as they were alive at the same time. Wayne and Horry, SC are geographically close to each other.
