Christopher's mother, Eve (Evelyn) Veringa, when responding to the death of Diederick, Esterhuizen's 5-year-old daughter, said, "My most sincere deepest heartfelt wishes to you on the loss of your sweet innocent daughter. My son Christopher Raubenheimer was murdered on the 10 August 2006 right outside my back door. Shot at point blank range and his only crime…. Warning his mother that criminals were at the back door. The poor child on the verge of asking his girlfriend for her hand in marriage. … on the verge of a successful career move… at least I can be thankful in that he had some of life.. I can only say that each time I remember my son, I will try my very best to remember your sweet daughter as well. Nothing I say now will ease the pain, personally, its only moment by moment….."
