Rice was one of the Executors of his father's will, along with his mother Mary and brother John Mathis. The heirs, Rice, John, Lazarus and Zacheus conveyed their interest in 300 acres of their father, Edmond's estate to their brother James, January 30, 1794. (Deed Bk. 10,pg.365) The heirs of Thomas (his brother) to Rice, deed March 9, 1827, conveying their interest in 800 acres for the sum of five hundred dollars. (Deed Bk. 10, pg. 523)
Deed to Rice from John Goff, his father-in -law, for 100 acres, Feb. 21, 1783. (Deed Bk. 1, pg.47) The 1790 Census, Fayette District, Sampson County, lists Rice as Head of Family with three Males under 10 years, four females including head of household, and one slave.
