LAKEVILLE - Claire Marie Mathews, 91, of Lakeville, IN, passed away at 7:45 AM Friday, October 1, 2010, in the Greencroft Gables Health Care Center, Goshen.
She taught high school for five years then worked and retired from the Uniroyal Corporation.
She was born on April 3, 1919, in Goshen, IN, to Harry and Emma (Kehr) Goodman.
On January 31, 1959, in Elkhart, IN, she married Ernest R. Mathews, who preceded her in death April 1, 2010.
Mrs. Mathews is survived by her son, Robert L. Johnson of Longs, SC; three sisters, Erma Troyer of Elkhart, IN, Florence Hower and Donnabelle Fletcher, both of Goshen; and one brother, Robert D. Goodman of Carmarillo, CA. Three sisters, Mary Goodman, Ruth Lock and Imogene Creakbaum, and four brothers, Jasper Goodman, Walter Roy Goodman, Edward Goodman and Harold Goodman, all preceded her in death.
Mrs. Mathews was a member of First Brethren Church of South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 6, 2010, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St, Lakeville. Rev. Larry Baker, pastor of First Brethren Church, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family for two hours prior to services Wednesday in the funeral home.
