About Clara Olive Bowe
Clara and her brother and sister were born in Sedro Woolley WA and moved with their family to Anacortes in 1915. After graduating AHS (Anacortes High School) in 1928, where her brother and sister were part of the classes that chose the Seahawks for their football team, of whom Les was a member in 1930, Clara worked in a bakery and then in a bank where Gere a Deli now stands in Anacortes WA.
They owned a large home @ 2217 R Ave but lost it to "Urban Renewal". Her mom then bought a house across R on 23rd.
She moved to 925 Terrace Seattle WA and worked for Standard Oil Co. 1318 4th Avenue Seattle. She eventually went to Hickam Air Force Base a year after Pearl Harbor, one of 100 secretaries, along with her best friend. She lived in the islands and then returned to work in Seattle, where she met Andrew Bowe in 1950. After marrying Andrew Bowe in early 1950s, she worked at GTE (General Telephone & Electronics) 2020 Santa Monica Blvd. as an administrative secretary for over 20 years until retirement, when she moved back home to be near her mom and sister and brother's families in Anacortes WA, where she volunteered for many years in many diverse ways, from the Senior Center to the Senior Advisory Board, to the Anacortes Arts and Crafts Fair, to the catechism classes at the local Catholic church, St. Mary's.

Clara survived her first husband, Andrew, living comfortably at home with her daughter andi until she was almost 103 years old. She had almost 200 hours of community service with the Senior Center (then in the downstairs of City Hall, where she purchased a house across the street on 5th and built by her cousins in 1925, so she could be near her center of volunteerism, with Sally Hill, who still directs the Anacortes Senior Center in this year, 2017, ), in 1982 alone, and then she delivered Meals on Wheels for another 15 years, as well as starting many of the programs at the Anacortes Senior Center that gained them National Recognition just a year before she passed on in 2014. This included a Senior Band, a Senior Exercise program, and a Senior Plant Sale, among others. Andi's little red radio wagon from her childhood and her old Schwinn one speed bike became Clara's and she used them for many years.
Andrew and Clara both loved to dance to country music and spent many happy hours while their daughter was growing up at Knott's Berry Farm and at the ballroom on the Venice Beach Boardwalk that belonged to Lawrence Welk where they built POP (Pacific Ocean Park), a huge amusement pier in the late 50s and early 60s.
