Leona Ragle, a retired elementary school teacher died at 11:30 PM at West Texas Medical Center in Abilene, Texas while visiting her son Norris Edward and daughter, Alice and their families....she had been ill for some time. Services will be 3 PM Saturday at North's Funeral Home Chapel in Abilene with RexKyker of Austin and JW Treat of University church of Christ and burial will be at Odem Cemetery, Odem, SanPatricio, Texas a few days later.....

Born January 5, 1907 in Comanche County, Texas she attended Academy High School and North Texas State University and graduated from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas, now part of the Texas A & M System....She married Homer Virgil Ragle in 1933 in Love County, Oklahoma and taught school in Taft, Texas from 1947-1961 and then moved to Alice, Texas. She moved to Odem, Texas in 1962 and lived there five years before moving to Burlington, Massassachusettes where she continued teaching and became involved in mission work with the church of Christ newly planted congregation in that city....She retired in 1974 and moved back to Odem, Texas and was visiting her son and daughter, Norris Edward and Alice in Abilene, Texas when she died....Survivors include sons, Norris Edward, Sr. of Abilene, Verne of Clute, daughter Alice Ragle Hall of Abilene, seven grandchildren, six brothers; Claude of BakersfieldCA, Marion and Albert Norris of Houston, Floyd and Donald of HockleyTX and two sisters, Ruby Norris Allee of Pasadena and Elsie Mae Norris Burnham of SanAngelo, Texas...Leona Norris Ragle was my GreatAunt descended from my great grandparents, Jim and Samantha Ann Norris and I was so encouraged to go to college because she did just that during a most spartan time period of the Great Depression....
