About Claus Hartwig Rolfs
Claus Hartwig ROLFS was born in November 1840, in Schwabstedt, Schleswig-Holstein Province, Germany.
His parents were Claus ROLFS and Christina THOMSEN.
Claus came to the United States in 1870, living first in Davenport, Iowa. He then lived in other parts of Iowa, making his home in Watkins, in Benton County, then Moville in Woodbury County and later Sioux City, Iowa.
Claus married Christina WOLF, in Davenport, Iowa, on October 11, 1873. The couple had four children: Matilda (Tillie) Christina ROLFS Thomas George ROLFS Christina (Tina) R. ROLFS and a twin of Christina's, who died at birth.
Claus died in Chicago on February 23, 1929, while visiting his daughter. He was laid to rest in Lawton, Woodbury County, Iowa, close to Moville and Sioux City.
It's important to note that Claus' middle name on his death certificate is wrong. His death certificate reads "Claus Harry ROLFS", but his correct name is "Claus Hartwig ROLFS".
