Cletus Neal Rainey, 87, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois went to be with his Lord and Savior at 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon. Cletus was born March 29, 1926 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, a son of Renzo and Nellie (Summers) Rainey. He married Gloria Jeanette (Casada) on April 5, 1947 in Benton and she preceded him in death April 26, 1996. Mr. Rainey attended the Howard Community Chapel in Opdyke. Cletus was a member of the Full Gospel Ministries Association. He worked for Vernois Stove Foundry in Mt. Vernon. He especially enjoyed playing the harmonica, music and dancing. He is survived by his children, Kerry Rainey of Belle Rive, Jerry Rainey and wife Suzanne of Phoenix, AZ, Jane Gagznos and husband David of Texico, Sue Bean and husband Martin of Grainger, IN, Danny Rainey of Dallas, OR, Barbara Ortgiesen and husband Carl of Woodlawn, Judy Lambert and husband Brian of Du Quoin, "Reenie" Burdin of Mt. Vernon, Rebecca Hester and husband Thomas of Mt. Vernon, Tammy Beard and husband Michael of Dix, Linda Martin and husband "Bob" of Dexter, MO, Mark Rainey and wife Elizabeth of Killeen, TX and Shawn Rainey and wife Sharon of Vancouver, WA; brother, Robert Rainey; half sister, Eva Robertson; brother-inlaw, Wayne Richards; half sister-in-law, Anna Mae Robertson; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and also a special friend Lottie McGehee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Renzo Rainey and Nellie Robertson; his grandparents he was raised by, Ma Annie (Muckelroy) Rainey and Pa James Albert Rainey; wife, Gloria Jeanette Rainey; sister, Virginia "June" Richards; brother, Leland Rainey; and a half brother Larry Robertson. Funeral services for Cletus Neal Rainey will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Ed Windland officiating. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in rural Mount Vernon. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. - 1p.m. on Saturday at the Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
